Cleburne is the county seat of Johnson County, Texas, in the United States. It has a population of 29,337 people according to the 2010 census. The city is named after Confederate General Patrick Cleburne. The reservoir that supplies water to the city and surrounding region, Lake Pat Cleburne, is also named after him.
Cleburne is located west of Johnson County’s center and 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Fort Worth’s center. Joshua borders it to the north, while Keene borders it to the east. The freeway bypass U.S. Route 67 goes through the city’s north side; the route leads east 12 miles (19 km) to Alvarado and west 53 miles (85 km) to Stephenville. Main Street in Cleburne is crossed by State Highways 171 and 174. Highway 171 goes northwest 19 miles (31 kilometers) to Cresson and southeast 29 miles (47 kilometers) to Hillsboro, whereas Highway 174 goes north 15 miles (24 kilometers) to Burleson and southwest 38 miles (61 kilometers) to Meridian.
Cleburne has a total area of 32.5 square miles (84.1 km2), of which 29.6 square miles (76.6 km2) are land and 2.9 square miles (7.4 km2), or 8.86 percent, are covered by water, according to the United States Census Bureau. East and West Buffalo Creeks pass through the heart of Cleburne, eventually joining the Nolan River and becoming part of the Brazos River basin.
